Glen was the son of Daniel McDowell and Mary Jane Lattin. When Glenn was very young, he lost first his father and afterwards his mother. He and his siblings moved back to Iowa, and Glenn and his younger brother Harper Wesley McDowell were raised by their Uncle Wm Wesley Lattin and Emeline Crane Lattin.

Glen married Georgia Anne Rambo 11 Feb 1900 in Columbus, NE. The family settled in Kearney, Nebraska.

"Glenn Earl McDowell was born in Millville, Wisconsin on September 18, 1870 and departed this life in Kearney, Nebraska on January 17, 1945 at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 29 days.
He leaves the following survivors: his wife Georgia of Kearney; five sons: William McDowell of Richmond, California, Albert of McCock, Nebr, Raymond and Jack of Kearney, and the Rev Clarence McDowell of Olean, New York; three daughters: Mrs. Frank Sharp, Mrs. Charles Reed, and Mrs. Goldie Williams, all of Kearney; 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; besides other relatives and friends.
