Howard P. Headdy, 78, of Monticello, died at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette.

He was born May 14, 1931 in Chalmers to the late Roy C. and Faye Nance Headdy. On June 27, 1957, he married Virginia Blume and she died on June 8, 1992. He married Rita Shaffer in April 2002 and she died in November 2008.

Surviving are two daughters, Luann Phelps (husband: Douglas) of Monticello and Linda Hintz (husband: Jeff) of Monticello; three sons, John Headdy (wife: Natalie) and James Headdy (wife: Jodi), both of Cincinnati, and Joe Headdy (wife: Angelique) of Crown Point; a sister, Melberta Clerget of Chalmers; a brother, William Dale Headdy (wife: Jody) of Monticello; a sister-in-law, Millie Headdy of Sarasota, Fl.; grandsons, Zach, Blake, Brandon, Jonathan and Zachary and granddaughters, Molly, Alexandra, Carrington and Savannah.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Brad Hintz and 2 brothers, Charles Dean and Robert Don Headdy.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
