Services for Claude L. Butterfield, 67, 527 E. Grant St., were held Thursday at 814 S. Adams St., with Rev. James Clifford, officiating. Burial was made in Grant Memorial Park.


Mr. Butterfield died Tuesday in Marion General Hospital. An engineer at Marion High School. Mr. Butterfield had worked Monday but became ill at home Monday evening and later taken to the hospital.


Born near Montpelier, Mr. Butterfield had been a Marion resident for 52 years. He had been employed by the school for the past 14 years. He was a member of the Samaritan Masonic Lodge.


Survivors include the widow, Bessie, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Fortney and Mrs. Evelyn Fortney, both of Marion; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Charlene Hodson, Marion, Mrs. Elaine DeWolf, Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Donna Powell, Philadelphia; one stepson, Gerald VanBlaricon, Marion; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. William Turner, Marion.
