PITTSBURGH (AP)A young backhoe operator who talked with rescuers as they dug for two hours to free him from a ditch died this morning [6/9]at Upper St. Clair Hospital, apparently from internal injuries. Authorities said John E. Allen, 20, of Carnegie had been working for his father at a construction site. He was digging and inspecting the opening when the walls collapsed. He was buried standing, in the ditch for about seven hours before the accident was discovered. Allen lapsed into a coma just before he was pulled from the hole and died a few hours later.
