She was the daughter of Krikor and Yakout Chavooshian. When she was 5 years old her family left their hometown of Sivas, Turkey and moved to Alexandria, Egypt. From there in 1908 they took the ship Carpathia to America. On the way though they hit a storm and all their possessions were washed overboard. Her family lived with family in New Haven, Connecticut before moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They lived on Front Street by the Delaware River there. She married Aghajan Shalelengian (changed to Shalengian/ Shelengian) on October 26, 1919 just after turning 17. Her father had taught her husband back in Sivas and when they met each other again by chance in Atlantic City, the marriage was soon arranged. Arousiag had two children, Martin and Marguerite. Arousiag lived in West Philadelphia from 1919 to the early or mid 1960s. Her husband had died in 1961, and a few years later she moved to Northeast Philadelphia with her daughter and her family. They had just returned from living in Iran for some years. Arousiag died of pancreatic cancer in 1980, just more than a month after her daughter Marguerite died. They had at one point been hospitalized in the same hospital in rooms near each other. Arousiag was never told of her daughter's death because she was so sick herself. Arousiag had five grandchildren.
