HEMBREE, Calvin L. Age 96, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 13, 2010. He was born October 12, 1913. He grew up and was married in Stilwell, Oklahoma. He and his cousin, Welford West, built a new house for Calvin and his bride, Kennie, to move into after they were married 5, June 1938. They celebrated 67 loving years of marriage before her passing in 2005. Calvin and Kennie moved from Stilwell to Midwest City, Oklahoma in 1943 so Calvin could work at "Tinker Field" (now called Tinker Air Force Base). He retired from Tinker after 30 years of service. Calvin and Kennie were charter (founding) members of the First Baptist Church Midwest City which began in a tent in 1943. Calvin and Kennie were volunteers delivering Meals on Wheels for 17 years after his retirement. Calvin loved gardening fruits, vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed sharing food from his garden with family and friends and taking flowers to those who were ill. Calvin and Kennie moved from Midwest City to Dayton, Ohio in 2005 to be closer to family. He will be deeply missed and always remembered as a kind and gentle man, a Christian example, and a loving father and grandfather who always put the needs of others before his own. Calvin was preceded in death by his wife, Kennie,; daughter, Wilma Jean Oliver; a brother and sister- in- law, Edgar and Lillian West of Stilwell, OK; and brother-in-law, John M. West of Cape Coral, Fl. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Russell Jones of Beavercreek; two loving granddaughters, Tanya Jones of Kettering, OH and Cindy Hegstrom and grandson-in-law, Greg Hegstrom of Dublin, OH. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Vera Robbins and her husband Lynn of Pasco, WA and sister-in-law, Navlion West of Cape Coral, FL. Special Thanks to Bethany Village staff for the loving care given to Calvin over the last five years and supplemental care given by Hospice of Dayton during his final weeks. Graveside services were held on Saturday, 15 May 2010, at Davids Cemetery in Kettering, OH, with Pastor Bob Ashburn, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Calvin could be given to the church he loved, First Baptist Church Midwest City, OK, or to Hospice of Dayton, or Meals on Wheels, or a charity of choice.
