CEMETERY RECORDS say died age 63 of paralysis.

OBITUARY Vermillion Iron Journal July 18 1889 "A Noble Life Ended"
Last Friday forenoon, at his home in this city (Tower), Joseph Jones passed from the cares of life to the home beyond not made with hands. Although his death had been expected for some time, it was hard for the bereaved ones to part with a loving father, whose goodness and kindness had endeared him to all.
The deceased was born in Redruth, Cornwall, England on April 27, 1826, and was therefore 63 years of age at the time of his death. He came to this country at the age of 23 and married two years later. He was the father of eleven children, six of whom are still living, most of them in this city. In 1863 he joined the Methodist church, with which denomination he had closely identified himself, and has ever since been a devout member. Up to four years ago, he had always followed mining through life, and it was presumable the hardships of this work that led to the cause of his death, paralysis.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Breitung M E Church, and the attendance was one of the largest in this country.
(note: Paralysis was frequently caused from being too deep within a mine and brought to the surface without allowing the proper decompression time, similar to scuba diving.)

Great-great-grandfather of Dale Safford as follows:
Joseph Jones 1826-1889
Eliza "Lillian" Jones Hill 1875-1945
Mallvilla Delia Hill Griffin 1893-1962
Jack Jerome Griffin 1927-2006
Dale Anne Griffin Safford 1950 ---

This recorded May 2010 by Dale Safford of Iron River, Michigan.
