He moved back to SC following her death. Their children were Dorothy Lee Godfrey Gunter, Theodore Oneal Godfrey, Paul Wilson Godfrey and Maud Godfrey Lease, all now deceased. According to a newspaper obituary John's funeral was conducted from the residence of his brother Benjamin H. Godfrey at Summerville, and he was buried in Boone Hill Methodist Cemetery.
