Died of Bright's Disease at His Home in Steele Cree[k] Township Late Sunday Night--Buried Yesterday Afternoon--An Aged and Respected Citizen.
Capt. William P. Brown, one of the oldest citizens of the county, passed away at his home in Steele Creek township Sunday night. Form many months he had been suffering with Bright's disease and his death has been expected for some time.
The funeral services were conducted from the Steele Creek Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon at 4:30 by the pastor, Rev. P. H. Gwyn. The interment was made in the church yard.
Surviving the deceased are his aged widow and five children, Messrs. I. J. Brown, of Waynesville; Rev. E. D. Brown, pastor of the Hopewell Presbyterian church, and C. P. Brown, of Steele Creek, and Mrs. Lizzie Abernethy, and Miss Rena Brown. All of these, with the exception of Mr. I. J. Brown, were at the bedside when the end came.
Capt. Brown had reached the advanced age of 82 years and up to a few months ago was robust in body and strong in mind. He was one of the best known and most respected citizens of the county. He had lived his entire life in the county and there are few citizens who did not know him. For more than half a century the deceased had been an elder in the good work of the church. He will be missed in the community.
It is worthy of note that before Capt. Brown's death he and his wife were the only parents of Confederate veterans both of whom were living. It is said that there is only one older citizen in Steele Creek township and that is Capt. B. F. Brown, the brother of the deceased.
