JOHN POPPENHAGEN DIED IN TOWN MEEME FUNERAL THURSDAY
John Poppenhagen, 73, who has been a resident of town Meeme, Manitowoc county, for a number of years, died at his home Monday.
The deceased was born November 9, 1844, in Muecklenberg-Schwerin, Germany.
The couple migrated to America in 1872 and settled on a farm two miles north of School Hill. His wife preceded him in death a number of years ago.
He is survived by four children, Mrs. August Lenz and Mrs. John Steffen, School Hill; Mrs. Karl Stanich and John Poppenhagen, Jr., of this city.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon. Burial was made in Louis Corners cemetery. Rev. Witte officiated.

Poppenhagen, John (Nov. 9, 1844-July 15, 1918 –husband of Maria Boeckman –born in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany –immigrated to the US with his wife and family in 1872 and settled in the Town of Meeme –on Nov. 25, 1876, John purchased 70 acres in the Town of Meeme and created a farmstead at 10218 Marken Road in Section 6, Town of Meeme –on Oct. 2, 1882, John purchased the adjoining 50 acres in E1/2 of Section 5, Town of Meeme –on Sept. 24, 1909, John sold this now 123 acre farm centered at 10218 Marken Road to his son-in-law John Steffen and his wife Ida Poppenhagen –on March 1, 1907, John purchased the 95 acre farm centered at 10916 Marken Road in Section 6, Town of Meeme –on Sept. 24, 1909, John sold this 95 acre farm to his son John Poppenhagen and his wife Mary Becker –on April 15, 1890, John purchased the 92 acre farm centered at 10130 Marken Road in Section 6, Town of Meeme –on Sept. 13, 1899, John sold this farm to his son-in-law Carl Stanisch and his wife Mary Poppenhagen –died from “dropsy”) –buried at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Louis Corners, Town of Schleswig [death record Manitowoc 15-587]
