Charles Roethel Dies at Age of 80
An invalid for some months, and rapidly weakening of the past two weeks, Charles Roethel died this Wednesday morning at his home here, a victim of the infirmities of old age. He would have been 80 years of age in August of this year.
Mr. Roethel was born August 1, 1849 in Germantown, Washington county, Wis., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Roethel. He remained at the parental home until January 9, 1873, when he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Wickensberg of Ada. The newly married couple then moved to a farm in the town of Meeme, where Mrs. Roethel died January 1, 1902.
For twelve years after the death of his wife, Mr. Roethel continued to manage the Meeme farm, when in 1914 he moved to Kiel, settling on the little farm on what is now Calumet avenue. The farm has been conducted by his son Herman for the past number of years.
Seven children were born to the couple, three of whom survive. They are Herman Roethel, at Kiel, Mrs. Louise Marx of Sheboygan, and Mrs. Ferdinand Schneider of Ada. Ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be held at one p.m. Saturday at the home, and at 1:30 at the Lutheran church at Louis Corners, with interment in the adjoining cemetery.
The Rev. L. B. Mielke of Millersville will conduct the services. - April 4, 1929
He had a brother Martin Roethel in Elkhart Lake
