He was born Aug. 23, 1915 in the Town of Newton, son of the late Herman and Charlotte (Rehbein) Wernecke.
On Jan. 6, 1940 he married Marguerite Heidemann in Dundalk, Maryland. He attended Newton Grade School and Lincoln High School and he was a graduate of the class of 1933.
He worked as a designing engineer for the Manitowoc Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. He retired there in 1977.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Louis Corners. He was a former Sunday School teacher and a past member of the Naval Architects Society.
Survivors include his wife, Margeurite, of Manitowoc; two daughters, Mrs. Marian (Sue) (Theodore) Zuberbier of Milwaukee, and Joan Wasmer of Appleton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 .m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Zion Lutheran Church in Louis Corners. Rev. James Bartz pastor officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel from 4 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 and again at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
A memorial fund has been established for the Manitowoc Lutheran High School.

Marriage of Karl/Marguerite Wernecke
M. Heidemann Weds in East
At 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, Jan. 6th, Miss Marguerite Heidemann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto C. Heidemann of near Cedar Lake, exchanged wedding vows with Karl Wernecke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wernecke of Newton. The ceremony was performed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray C. Wernecke, brother and sister-in-law of the groom, Morington Road, Dudalk, Maryland, near Baltimore.
Up until the latter part of December, Mrs. Wernecke had been employed in the office of the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Co. during the Christmas week, she left for Dudalk to be married. She is a graduate of Kiel High School with the class of 1935. Mr. Wernecke is employed with the Bethlehem Steel Co. at Sparrow's Point near Baltimore. The young couple is making their home at Dudalk.
