Attending school at Forest Grove and Idabel, Lester then hitchhiked to Dallas to find work. He lived in the Dallas area since his early 20’s. His hard work paid off, when he retired from the City of Dallas, he spent many a happy hours fishing at his favorite spot on Lake Ray Hubbard near Garland. There was nothing he liked better than sharing his fish by having a fish fry with family and friends. Besides fishing, another hobby of his was keeping his vehicles in tiptop shape. Lester had a heart of pure gold and would help anyone whom he thought needed help and never asked for anything in return.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Madison “Jimmy” Fields in 1965 and Chester Fields in 2003; sisters, Faye Giordano and Ailene Williams in 2009.
Lester leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years, Ella Fields of Garland whom he married on December 30, 1960 in Dallas; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Roger Hammack; son, Tommy Joe Fields of Garland; loving granddaughter whom he and Ella raised from infancy, Kayla Fields; grandsons, Jason James West and Justin West; sister, Pat Luesada and family of Redmond, Washington; brother-in-law, Benny Giordano of Escondido, California; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
