TYLER, Texas — Martha K. Adams, 85, of Tyler, Texas, died at 7:43 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center of East Texas in Tyler. She had resided in Tyler the past 22 years.

She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Weir, Kansas to Joseph T. and Goldie C. (Cutshall) Marvin. She had a sister, Violet Augusta, who was three years older.

She attended schools in Parsons, Kansas all 12 years, graduating from Parsons High School in 1942.

On Nov. 25, 1942, she married Roy M. Adams in the Parsons Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Riley Archer officiating. They had ben married three days shy of 67 years. She was a devoted, loving wife who provided a Christian home for her husband and children.

"Marty" lived with her husband and two of their children in Parsons until 1958, when they moved to Kansas City, Mo. They had two full-time additions to the family after moving, as well as two part-time additions, a niece and a nephew. She and Roy resided in Raytown, Missouri until they retired in 1988, at which time they moved to Tyler, Texas.

She was a member in good standing with the Lakeview Nazarene Church of Tyler. She had previously attended St. Paul's Church of the Nazarene in Raytown, Mo., when they lived there. Her early years were spent in Parsons Nazarene Church.

For many years, she was an avid bowler in Raytown, Mo. She was an active parent in the Raytown P.T.A., holding offices in that organization. She was active in the Youth for Christ organization, supporting the children in their activities while her husband held offices in that organization. She was always an active member of the Women's Ministries of St. Paul's and Lakeview Nazarene churches. Together with Roy, they were members of the Nazarene Laymen's organization as well as the church Prime Timers clubs in Raytown and Tyler.

She loved to attend the Seabees Reunions from World War II, as well as their high school reunions in Parsons, Ks each year. She loved to quilt, sew and do hand work. She enjoyed flowers and watching hummingbirds from the windows of her home. She always enjoyed the visits from children, grandchildren and most recently the great-grandchildren. Family reunions were very much an important part of her life.

Survivors include her children, Linda K. Giles and her husband, C. Gene, David J. Adams and his wife, Linda, Pegi S. Merriman and her husband, David, and Timothy R. Adams; a niece and a nephew, Debbie Baker Coffman and her husband, Michael, and Daniel Baker and his wife, Patti; grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Giles and his partner, Jesse Mejas, James A. Giles, Jennifer A. Williams, Jan A. Simpson and her husband, David, Elizabeth Merriman-Murphy and her husband, James Murphy, Rebecca Merriman, Jared Coffman, Jason Coffman and his wife, Lori Coffman, Justin Coffman, Amy Baker-Shields and her husband, Greg Shields, and Christopher Baker and his wife, Josie Baker; and great-grandchildren, Christopher J. Giles, Sarah L. Williams, Jake C. Simpson, Jessica C. Simpson, Jeffrey T. Giles, Joshua A. Williams, Katie Shields, Ashlie Shields, C.J. Shields, Rayce Baker and Chassis Baker.

Preceding her in death were her parents and sister.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons, Kansas. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery near Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
