JOSEPH WALTER MILES, 78, of Loretto, died at 1:30 p.m., March 15 at Taylor County Hospital in Campbellsville. Mr. Miles was a retired maintenance foreman at Maker's Mark Distillery. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a member of the West Marion County Senior Citizens Club. He was a native of St. Francis and a son of the late Joseph Lavell and Sarah Ellen Alvey Miles. Survivors include: his wife, Catherine Rose "Katie" Mattingly; four daughters, Mrs. Betty Lou Thompson and Mrs. Leon "Therese" Hamilton of Loretto, Mrs. Dave "Linda" Medley of Mt. Washington and Mrs. Bill "Mary Catherine" Lamkin of Elizabethtown; five sons, J. W., Bobby, Elmer and Louie Miles of Louisville and Frankie Miles of Lebanon; 33 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Webb of Loretto and Ardine Miles of Louisville; one sister, Marie Miles of Loretto. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., March 18 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. The West Marion County Senior Citizens formed an honor guard at the church. Rev. David W. Denneler officiated. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, Eddie Miles, Todd Miles, Chris Miles, Tom Hamilton, Troy Hamilton and Jeff Lamkin. Active pallbearers were grandchildren, Ronnie Miles, Steve Miles, Joey Miles, Johnny Thompson, David Thompson and Donald Thompson. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m., March 17 at the funeral home. Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, was in charge of the arrangements.
