Nancy Leah Garey Heider

Nancy Leah Garey Heider of North Platte, passed away at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born to Frank and Zorah Garey in Omaha. Nancy graduated from the University of Nebraska, and had served as the President of her sorority, Delta Gamma. She taught school in Lincoln and worked in the Governor's office for Val Peterson. She met Dr. Charles Heider on a blind date and they were married 9 months later in 1950. Two children were born to this union. Nancy was chairperson of the Hospital Gift Shop for 8 years; she served as president of the Medical Auxiliary; president of the Community Concert; and president of Chapter AK, PEO. She was awarded a lifetime membership in PTA. Her great passion for over 50 years was volunteering for the Goodfellow Shoe fund Drive. She served as president twice. Nancy was a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church, and chaired several committees to build the new church. She served on the University of Nebraska Friends of the Library for years and then on the North Platte Friends of the Library for over 40 years. Nancy loved to bake, and she shared her baking products with friends, She became known as the "banana bread lady". She was preceded in death by her parents. Burial will be May 25, 2010 at the North Platte Cemetery.
