The frozen body of Charles Van Gorder, age 63, with a wound to the head and a shotgun on the floor next to his body was found on Monday, February 1,1954 in his one room home in Waukon, Iowa. The authorities stated he apparently had been dead about three weeks. The door to the house where he lived alone was barricaded and on the front door was a sign that read, "Do Not Disturb". The Allamakee County coroner said by the time Mr. Van Gorder's body was found, enough time had passed, the exact date and time in January could not be determined. He did state though that the cause of death was a suicide.
