CUNNINGHAM - Fred Baker Cunningham, age 56 of 1473 North 5th Street, Springfield passed away September 15, 1972. A resident of this vicinity for the past 24 years. He was born March 7, 1916 at Coquille, Oregon and was married to Phyllis V. Barry, July 24, 1941 at Coquille. Mr. Cunningham was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. A member of the Springfield American Legion Post No. 40 and the Springfield Elks Lodge No. 2145. Surviving besides his wife, Phyllis of Springfield, are two sons: James Marshall Cunningham of Eugene and Timothy Alan Cunningham serving with the U.S. Navy; two sisters, Ethel Swanson of San Jacinto, California and Grace Rogers of Garden Grove, California; numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 19, 1972 at 10 a.m. at the Springfield Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Earl Gibbs officiating. The family request that those who wish may contribute to the Oregon Heart Association in his memory. The casket will remain closed. BURNS-FREDERICKSEN FUNERAL HOME in care of arrangements.

Note: Fred Baker Cunningham was the youngest of Ed & Myrtie Cunningham's ten children. The family lived in the Fat Elk area just outside of Coquille, Oregon. Ed Cunningham worked as a logger. Their children were: Clarence, Lawrence L., Myrtle M., Margaret I., Alice M., Charley A., Ruth I., Ethel C., Grace Josephine, and Fred Baker Cunningham.

Myrtie Cunningham died when her youngest two children were fifteen and thirteen years old. Grace Cunningham went to live with their older sister, Margaret and their older brother Charley, who were residing together in California. Fred Cunningham and his father then moved in with with Fred's older sister Alice M. (Cunningham) McCarty, who was a nurse in Coquille. Ed Cunningham himself died two years later.
