Gaylen Gene Hawkins, son of Carol and Sophia Boelman Hawkins, was born at Waterloo, Iowa on November 12, 1951. He had spent his entire life in the rural Parkersburg vicinity. He received his education in the Parkersburg Community School System where he graduated from high school with the class of 1969. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed at the Parkersburg Congregational Church. Gaylen attended Iowa State University at Ames for nearly a year and more recently was employed at the Wagoner Supply and Elevator Company at Parkersburg.

He died an accidental death on Friday morning, January 22, 1971, at the age of 19 years, 2 months and 10 days.

He is survived by his parents, Carol and Sophia, of Parkersburg; 1 sister, Phyllis, of Grundy Center; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jason Hawkins of Chula Vista, California; several aunts and uncles and a number of cousins.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, January 25th, 1971 at the Congregational Church with Rev. Nevin Haines officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery at Parkersburg.
