In 1877 Dr. Malone came to Scott County and erected a sawmill employing 300 on the east bank of Little River just below where Salcedo would later be founded.
In 1880 Dr. Malone moved his sawmill south from just below Salcedo to a place bounded on the south by the Iron Mountain Railroad and on the west by Little River. It would become "Malone" settlement until in 1889, he would sell his holdings there to the Himmelberger Sawmill interest, west across Little River in Stoddard County.
From that time in 1889 the name of the Malone settlement would undergo a change to later become Morehouse, Missouri.
