WIER, CDR. RICHARD AUSTIN
United States Navy (Ret.), of Mountain Brook, AL, died October 12, 2004 at the age of 82. Born July 19, 1922 in Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Dunwoody Burges Wier, Stuart Austin Wier, and infant twin brother.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Willis Wier; daughters, Margaret Anne Jernigan (Charles), Jean Stuart Prine (Harold); grand-daughters, Elizabeth Jernigan and Gina Passarella; great grandson, Caleb Walek.
Graduated Highland Park High School, Dallas, Texas; University of Texas, Bachelor of Business Administration, Beta Gamma Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi; George Washington University, Washington D.C., Phi Delta Phi, Order of Coif, Juris Doctor, Armed Forces Staff College.
Member of Sons of American Revolution, Baronial Order of Magna Charta, Descendants of Colonial Clergy, Charter member of Retired Officers Association, Disabled American Veterans, Sons of the Confederacy, Order of Stars and Bars, Birmingham-Jefferson Historical Society, Arlington Historical Society, The Saint Andrews Society of the Middle South, The Club, Army Navy Club in Washington D.C., Republican Party Jefferson County Executive Committee.
Mr. Wier was a member of Saint Luke's Episcopal Church. He served in the United States Navy for 30 years at stations world wide during World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired in 1972.
Memorial services will be held Friday, October 15, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends in the Founder's Room immediately following the service. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C. at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church or Birmingham Humane Society, 1713 Lomb Avenue, Birmingham, AL 35208. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel, 205-879-3401 in Homewood.
