Samuel's birth year and place are in question. The census records from 1900 and 1920 both indicate he was born in November 1882, not 1886 as recorded on his death certificate. In addition, both census records state he was born in Texas, however the death certificate states he was born in Alabama, which agrees with family records. He is enumerated with his parents in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on the 1900 census and is the only child with a Texas birth place, all the rest having been born in Alabama. In 1912, he married Minnie (nee Long) Bradley in Texas. In 1920, Samuel is found with his wife, Minnie and their daughter, Opal in Liberty County, Texas. Minnie died in 1920 and is buried in Conroe, Texas according to her death certificate. Their daughter, Opal, is found living in 1930 with her maternal grandparents, M. A. and Laura Long, at age 14 or 15 and no enumeration is found for Samuel Dixon Day.
Another problem is the name of his mother, which is incorrectly recorded on his death certificate by the Jefferson Davis Hospital as Elizabeth Goodson. Samuel's father was never married to anyone else except Josephine Whitson and Samuel is listed as his son, under the given name Dixon, on the 1900 census. Samuel's mother's name may simply be an error on the part of the informant, which appears to someone at the hospital where he died and not a relative.

Inscription

No grave marker was found in April 2014 by a volunteer photographer. He also was not listed on a cemetery survey done in 2010. It is, therefore, assumed that he has no marker.
