HELEN L. HESTER

Helen L. Hester, 89 of El Centro passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010.

Helen was born November 1, 1920 in Holtville to Claude and Jewel Torrence. Raised in Heber, she attended Heber Elementary School, Central Union High School, (Class of 1938) and graduated from Woodbury Business College in Los Angeles.

She married her high school sweetheart, Luther Hester in 1942. They lived in Texas and Visalia, CA while he was in the Army Air Corps. Together they raised three children.

Helen worked for Bank of America, the Heber Water District and Desert Seed. In 1960 she joined her mother, father and husband at Torrence's Farm Implements where she was known as "The Boss". She believed that with hard work you could accomplish anything.

Family and business were most important to Helen. She was proud that her children and grandchildren took interest in the family business that her father started. She retired in 2008 at the age of 87.

Helen was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, El Centro bridge club, I.V. Navion Society and was an avid Charger fan. She always looked forward to traveling to the annual Navion and Far West conventions, and family vacations to Montana and Mexico. Christmas was her favorite holiday, she especially enjoyed cooking for the whole family. Helen loved anything and everything Pink.

Surrounded by her family, Helen gave her life to the Lord and was baptized May 24, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her son Scott in 2005 and husband Luther in 2007. She missed them both dearly.

Helen is survived by her daughter Pamela (Armand) Savage of Bakersfield; son Kirk Hester of Bermuda Dunes; sister Claudine (Jack) Duff of San Diego; grandchildren Kimberly, Matthew, Melissa, Nathan, Jennifer, Christopher, Chad, Ross, Kreig and Lucas, and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at 9 a.m. on Saturday June 5, 2010, at Hems Brothers Mortuary, in El Centro. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggested contributions be made to the American Autism Society or the American Cancer Society .
