Nov. 18, 1898 Friday Sullivan Democrat - A Prominent Insurance Man Died Monday Afternoon - Charles M. Stewart, a prominent business man of this city, died Monday afternoon of apoplexy. The attack came at 1 o'clock and he breathed his last within an hour after that time. For three weeks prior to his death Mr. Stewart had been ill with a severe cold, but had almost completely recovered from its effects. He was able to be on the street last Friday and felt that he would be ready to attend to his business duties in a few days. Mr. Stewart was born in Sullivan, Ill., Jan. 13, 1854, and is a brother of Dr. L. A. Stewart of this city. His parents moved to this place in the early sixties. His father engaged in the insurance business until his death when the business was undertaken and has since been conducted by the subject of this sketch. Mr. Stewart was married in March 1874 to Sarah M. Crawford, who, with their three children, Bertha, Pierre and Marion, survive to mourn his loss. For the protection of his family the deceased carried an insurance of $7,000 on his life. The funeral occurred Wednesday at 10 o'clock from the family residence on East Washington street. Rev. Mayo preached the funeral sermon. The remains were laid at rest in Center Ridge Cemetery. Those attending the funeral from a distance were; Dr. R. W. Stewart, Danville, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Barnes, of East Liverpool, Ohio; J. F. Stewart, Chattanooga, Tenn.
