Robert E. Huss, 65, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia. Born and raised in Toledo, OH, he graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School and received a BA from the University of Niagara. Robert earned several master's degrees from other schools along with a CAS from SUNY Oswego. He was founder and director of the Refugee Program for the Syracuse City School District and retired in 2008 after 31 years. He was a communicant of St. Lucy's Church. An artist, Robert also enjoyed SU basketball and football, golfing, boating, and gardening. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Evelyn Huss; and grandson, Adam Haahr in April. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, the former Jeanne Taylor; daughters, Tara (Tom) Davis of Liverpool and Erica (David) Haahr of No. Syracuse; sisters, Patricia Loose, Diane Spitalari and Nancy Bombrys; brother, James Huss; and grandchildren, Julianna Davis and Ethan Haahr. Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church. Burial will be private in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville.
