Collisions Occur on Hill Crests on Roads in County
Three persons, including a prominent Town of Eaton official, were killed in two separate Manitowoc County traffic accidents over the weekend.
Both collisions occurred on hill crests during hours of darkness. The deaths raised the county's traffic fatality toll to five persons compared with four at this time in 1968.
Victims were Waldo Graf, 73, and Barbarann Rose Schwoerer, 22, both of Rt. 1, Kiel, and Mrs. Paul D. Mangin, 66, of Rt. 1, Reedsville.
Graf, veteran County Board member and chairman of the Town of Eaton, and Miss Schwoerer were injured fatally in a three-car collision three and three quarters miles north of Kiel on Highway 32 at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday.
Graf was alone in his automobile and the Schwoerer girl was a passenger in a convertible car driven by (private).
Funeral services for Mr. Graf will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Collins. The Rev. Robert Wendland will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Graf was born March 19, 1894, in the Town of Eaton, son of the late Frederick and Frances Moser Graf. He married Erma Markwardt Jan. 27, 1914, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. She preceded him in death July 31, 1963.
He farmed all his life in the Town of Eaton until his retirement seven years ago. He served 19 years as supervisor of the Town ofEaton and 14 years as chairman. He was also a member of the educational,institutional and financial committees of the county board. For a number of years he served as a member of District No. 3 schoolboard.
He was president of the church council of his congregation. Threebrothers and four sisters also preceded him in death.

3 Sons Survive
Survivors include three sons, Wilmer, of Rt. 1, Kiel, Frederick, ofBrillion, and Ralph, of Manitowoc; a daughter, Mrs. John Riesterer,of Rt., Chilton; 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Friends may call at Reedsville Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Tuesdayuntil 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and at the church Wednesday until the hour of service.

Graf, Waldo (March 19, 1894-April 23, 1967 –husband of Erma Markwardt [married Jan. 27, 1914 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Louis Corners, Town of Schleswig] –son of Frederick Graf [born Germany] and Franciska Moser [born New York] –born Town of Eaton –farmer in Town of Eaton –served 19 years as supervisor of the Town of Eaton and 14 years as chairman –on May 29, 1919 purchased the 198 acre farm centered at 21933 Carstens Lake Road in Section 16, Town of Eaton from his widowed father-in-law Henry Markwardt –on July 31, 1957 sold the 40 acres of the SE1/4 of the SW1/4 of Section 7, Town of Eaton to the Wisconsin Conservation Commission –this land then became part of the Killsnake Wildlife Area –before the sale on July 31, 1957 these 40 acres were part of the farm centered at 21933 Carstens Lake Road –on March 30, 1920 purchased the 40 acres of the NE1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 21, Town of Eaton from Simon Strauss –on that same day, March 30, 1920, sold the 40 acres of the NW1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 21 from his farm at 21933 Carstens Lake Road to Bernard Fiedler –on Nov. 30, 1964 sold the 40 acres of the NE1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 21 to Herman Strauss, who was the son of Simon Strauss who had sold this same 40 acres to Waldo in 1920 –on April 7, 1966 sold the 118 acres farm centered at 21933 Carstens Lake Road in Section 16 to Gilbert and Beulah Portman –from Dec. 21, 1918 until his death in 1967 owned the 20 acres of swampland in the N1/2 of the NW1/4 of the SE1/4 of Section 20, Town of Eaton –from June 2, 1954 to Jan. 13, 1967 owned 10 acres of swampland in the far western part of the SW1/4 of the SE1/4 of Section 30, Town of Eaton –killed in a three-car collision some 3 miles north of Kiel on Highway 67 at about 1:20 am –Waldo Graf was alone in his car –died from “crushed chest –skull fracture”) –buried at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Rockland [marriage record Manitowoc 11-382] [death record 63-499]
