Kansan, Monday, January 8, 1945

Edwin Milton Shomber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Danial Shomber, was born at Bradford, Ohio, January 29, 1868 and passea away at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton, Kansas, January 3, 1945, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 5 days.

He was united in marriage to Catherine G. Miller on June 26, 1892 who preceded him in death on January 14, 1944. To this union the following seven children were born: Avery of Ellinwood, Kans., Leland of El Dorado, Kans., Myrtle Turner of Larned, Kans., Lilas Shomber of Washington D.C., Loal Reber of
Valley Center and Mildred Williams of Walton, Marie, who passed away in 1918 at the age of eleven years, one sister, Mrs. luella miller of Walton also survives.

Mr. Shomber was a patiient at Bethel Hospital since October 17, 1944 at which time he sustained an injury in a falll at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Spangler where he made his home. Due to his advanced age he was unable to overcome the complications which sat in. He was a patient sufferer and enjoyed the visits and cards from his many friends and relatives.

He came to Kansas with his parents in 1878 and located on a farm near Walton, Kansas until 1890 when he took enployment with the Santa Fe Railroad as agent and telegraph operator, continuning at this work until 1906. Having learned the watch rrepair business in his spare time he worked at this trade for two years. He then moved to the farm at Concordia, Kans., where he remained for three years. From 1911 to 1919 he resided on a farm at Walton and since his retirement has lived in Newton.

He was a member of the Newton Lodge A. F. & A. M., Arkansas Valley Chapter and Newton Commandery.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 5th, at 2:30 p.m. at the Duff and Son Funeral parlor with Rev. C. R. Findley officiating.

Pallbearers were: C. L. Hupp, C. F. Garten, Wm. H. Evans, Milton Powell, Phil Shipman and E. A. Kinzer. The Masonic burial service was held and entombment was m ade in Greenwood Abbey.
