John David McKim began his military service on November 7, 1862; at which time he joined the boys in blue of Company B, Seventh Iowa Cavalry, serving until the close of the war. He was the first school teacher in Union Township of Appanoose County, Iowa. He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Tate) McKim. Husband of Rebecca (Lamar) McKim. Father of Alfred Newton, John Riley, Elijah Marion, Mathias Wollen, Lewis Cass, Frank Leslie, Martha Josephine, James R., infant son and Sarah E. McKim.
