Jack E. Schafer, 83, of Palmer Twp., passed away Saturday, May 29, in Easton Hospital.
Jack was born on March 27, 1927 in Easton, PA a son of the late Theodore Schafer and Isabel VanSyckle Davis.
Jack is survived by his wife Mary Passafiume Schafer with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 22.
He was a plant manager at the former Shapiro and Son, later Avante textile mill in Easton. Jack later worked as a Deputy Sheriff for Northampton County until his retirement in 2008. He served as a signalman in the US Navy during WWII in the Atlantic theater of operations. He was a 1944 graduate of Easton high School. He was an avid Penn State Football fan.
Jack was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Easton. He was a member of St. Anthonys Golden Age Club, the Liberty Hose and Fleas club of Easton.
Jack was preceded in death by a brother Michael Schafer and a sister Alice Hoadley.

Katherine J. Clawson VanSyckle (1862-1936)
who was the sister of my gr-gr-grandmother
Margaret M. Clawson Margeson (1855-1922)
which made us 5th cousins on my father's
side and on Jack's mother's side.
Jack Schafer was the grandson of
Alice K. Miller Schafer (1870-1935)
who was the sister of my gr-grandfather
George E. Miller (1883-1947)
which made us 4th cousins on my mother's
side and on Jack's father's side.
I am twice related to Jack because I am
related to both his parents:
Theodore M. "Dory" Schafer Sr.
(1900-1982)
through my maternal grandfather

Carrie I. "Isabel" VanSyckle Schafer Davis
(1905-1977)
through my paternal grandfather.

Though I did not know Jack personally, I
respectfully honor his memory with this
memorial since he was a distant relative
of mine (twice).
