Gary Lee Daniels, 70, husband of Elizabeth Cameron Greer Daniels, died Friday, May 28, 2010.

Born in Georgetown, SC, he was the son of the late Claude Charles and Delores McKnight Daniels.

Gary was an entrepreneur in the rigid packaging industry. He formerly owned and operated Package Supply and Equipment Company, Inc. and currently owned and operated Daniels Scientific, Inc. He was a graduate of Winyah High School and the University of South Carolina. He was a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church and the Roundtable Sunday School Class of the church. He had been a member of both the Finance Committee and the Administrative Board and has chaired the Every Member Canvas.

He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Columbia College, Chairman of the Columbia College Business Affairs Committee, and Charter member and Chairman of the Columbia College Board of Visitors. He received the Distinguished Visiting Professor Award, speaking at the Columbia College Commencement in 1985. He was a Board member of Carolina Piedmont Foundation and the Gold Dome Society, USC Spartanburg. He was a member of the Task Force for Improvement of Teacher's Education in SC.

Gary had also served as a Trustee of the University of South Carolina Foundation and Director of the University of South Carolina Educational Foundation. He also served on the National Board for Independent Colleges, and the South Carolina Foundation of Independent Colleges. He served on the Boards of the Greenville YMCA, Camp Greenville, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, and South Carolina National Bank, Greenville.

Gary was a member of the Gamecock Club and a long time member of the Caine Halter Family YMCA, the Rotary Club and Sertoma International.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Greer McKnight Daniels of Abbeville and Gary Lee Daniels, Jr and wife Catherine Danahy Daniels of Greenville; a brother, Claude Mac Daniels and wife "B-G" of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Keyton McNeill Daniels, Casey McKnight Daniels and William Cameron Daniels; and special family members, Pauline Bolden and Janice Bolden Thompson.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Leigh Ann Daniels who died in 2005.

Memorials may be made to the Caine Halter Family YMCA, 721 Cleveland Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, 200 Buncombe Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or the Leigh Ann Daniels Memorial Endowment at the South Carolina Children's Theater, 153 Augusta St., Greenville, SC 29601.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, May 30, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Jerry Temple and Reverend Grover Putnam. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the church parlor.
