WAUKESHA FREEMAN, Friday, March 24, 1939: Geo. Funk, 64, Dies Suddenly
George Funk, 64, 129 W. Newhall ave., a well known Waukesha resident, died at the Municipal hospital late Thursday night after an operation. He lived in Waukesha all his life, was an employe of the Waukesha Motor works for the last 28 years and was active in club work. He was listed as a candidate for city clerk on a non-partisan ticket in the April elections, the first time he sought a political office.
Mr. Funk was present chancellor commander of the Waukesha Knights of Pythias lodge and was very active in the building program which recently resulted in the erection of a new K. P. club house.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Pearl Funk; two sons, Gilbert R. Funk of Waukesha and Laurel G. Funk of Monroe, La.; a brother, Ray Funk, Eagle township; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Vick, Mukwonago, and Mrs. George Weston, town of Pewaukee, and several nieces and nephews.
Services Monday
Funeral services will be held Monday, Mar. 27, at 2 p.m. at the new Erling Larsen funeral home, 419 E. Broadway, Rev. W. P. Hulen will officiate. Interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery.
Mr. Funk was a member of the Methodist church and of the Methodist Men's club. He was a foreman at the Motor Works for many years and served as an inspector until illness forced him to leave.
He underwent an operation six weeks ago previous to the second operation this week.
He was born on a farm at Niver's hill, south of Waukesha, and attended local schools. His father was Benjamin Funk who died five years ago, one of the last Civil war veterans in the city and a well-known county pioneer.
The body will life in state at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Saturday.
