Mr. Richard Paul Saylor, 81, of Warsaw, and formerly of La Porte, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at 10:05 a.m. La Porte County time at Mason Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Warsaw, following an illness of one year.

He was born July 15, 1926, in Goshen to Arthur Franklin and Essie Marie (Adams) Saylor, coming from New Paris, Ind.

Mr. Saylor retired from NIPSCO as a storekeeper, keeping track of lines and poles. He was a 1944 graduate of New Paris High School and a member of Masonic Lodge in Goshen, Scottish Rite in South Bend and the American Legion in Warsaw. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

On Oct. 21, 1948, in Lakeville, Ind., he married Viola JoAnn Hower, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Kirby of Warsaw; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeremiah; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Audrey Whitlock of Syracuse, Ind., and Sandra Sutton of Middlebury, Ind.; and one brother, Don of New Paris.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rickie Joe, who died March 7, 1970; and two brothers, Robert and Nelson.

A private family graveside service will be at New Paris Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Bollenbacher officiating. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
