Carl married Ruth Mallory Brockman on March 26, 1927 in Stillwater, Oklahoma (their wedding photo is included here). Ruth's sister, Hilda Brockman, was working as a nurse/teacher at Oklahoma's A&M college there in Stillwater at the time.
By the 1930 census, Carl and Ruth had bought a peach farm in Charleton County, outside of Folkston, Georgia. Ruth's other two sisters, Helen and Louise, were living there with them at the time. Carl and Ruth never had any children. Ruth died in 1937 at age 40 and her body was taken back to Iowa to be buried in the family plot in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Helen left the farm sometime later, before 1940. Louise stayed on, probably keeping house for Carl, because it is just the 2 of them listed in the 1940 census as a widowed farmer and his sister-in-law.
Louise died in 1957, at age 68, and was buried in the family plot in Iowa. Carl remained in Georgia and died at the age of 65 in 1959.
Biography by Tamara Foran, the granddaughter of Carl's sister-in-law.
