When Agnes was a baby, her family moved to Newport, Tennessee, where her brother Kiffin was born, and where her father died. They were still in Newport in 1900, where her mother was teaching school. The family moved to Asheville, NC around 1909, and Mrs. Rockwell became an osteopath. Both of Agnes' brothers, Col. Paul Rockwell (1889-1965) and Kiffin Rockwell (1892-1916) served with great distinction in the World War.
On 8 December 1916, Agnes married Rev. Leonidas Braxton Hayes (1887-1965) of Wilkes County, NC, at her mother's home in Asheville. He was a son of George Washington Hayes and his wife Sarah Bathsheba Berry, of Caldwell County. L. B. and Agnes were living in Wilkes Co. in 1917, in Franklin, NC in 1920, in Greensboro, NC in 1922/3, and in Winston-Salem in 1926, where Agnes died of complications following the birth of their fourth child.
Agnes and L. B. Hayes had four children: Kiffin Rockwell Hayes (1917-1998), Mary Elizabeth Hayes (1920-1936), Agnes Marjolaine Hayes (1922-1923) and L. B. Hayes, Jr.
While there is a listing for Agnes in the Jarnigan Cemetery, Morristown, Tennessee, where her parents are buired, her death certificate states she was buried at Green Hill, Greensboro, which seems most likely, as her husband and two daughters are there.
