Dottie's Obituary
Dottie O'Driscoll 1929 ~ 2006 Dorothy "Dottie" Opal Abney O'Driscoll, age "29," passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2006, in Payson, Utah after a noble two-year battle with ALS. Dottie was born July 7, 1929 to Vada Belle Hawn and James Bradley Abney in rural Burkesville, Kentucky as the seventh of ten children. She inherited tenacity, fortitude and creativity from her Kentucky and Tennessee forbearers. She often spoke of her admiration for their abilities to carve a family legacy with very little means. She, in turn, did so as well. Dottie graduated from Burkesville High School then moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she secured employment at the new RCA Television Factory. She quickly learned the new technology and advanced from chassis assembly line worker to inspector of diodes and polarity. She married Lynn C. O'Driscoll in Indiana, April 25, 1949. They moved to Utah, raised four children and later divorced. Dottie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She sacrificed greatly to support her children. She believed in standing strong for her principles. She was hard working, compassionate, dependable and out-spoken against injustices in the work place. Among family and friends, she was known for her southern cooking and hospitality. She enjoyed singing and playing her guitar, often performing with her sisters before moving to Utah. Until her health failed, she found pleasure in planting and caring for her yard and garden, and keeping her home immaculate while maintaining a 40 hour work week. Dottie was very particular with detail. This talent was recognized in her 50 years of laboring in the workforce where she usually held position of Inspector. She worked for RCA Television, Montgomery Ward, Lang Photography, Woolworth's Five and Dime, Litton Industries Guidance Systems, Scott's Clothing, Evan's and Sutherland, Weinstock's Clothing, the Salt Lake School District, and owned and managed a housecleaning business. She also worked several years for Hercules Aerospace where she inspected and prepared reports for the Military on space shuttle motors, missile guidance systems and F-16 airplanes. Dottie happily joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints October 31, 2004, and was faithful in enduring to the end. She is survived by her children: Lynda Faith (Don) Ashcraft, of Payson; Rebecca Hope Young, of Lafayette, Colorado; Michael Abney (Cyndee) O'Driscoll, of Salt Lake City; Jeffrey Lynn (Mary) O'Driscoll, of Payson. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren, three sisters: Delia Jane Crawford of Indianapolis, Indiana; Clara Edith England of Indianapolis; and Rosa Estella Richeson of Bradenton, FL; also a brother Floyd Donald Abney of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: William McKinley Abney, Frank Fawler Abney, and James Bradley Abney Jr. and two sisters: Minnie Ellen Abney White and Lessie Iva Abney. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Payson 18th Ward Chapel, at 482 West 1400 South, Payson. Viewings will be held Friday at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville from 6:30-8:00 p.m., and at the church on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Springville Historic Cemetery.
