US Congressman, North Dakota Governor. A member of the Democratic Party, he served North Dakota's Second District in the United States House of Representatives from 1971 to 1973, and was Governor of North Dakota from 1973 to 1981. Raised on a farm, the only son among six children, he attended North Dakota Agricultural College. After marrying, he started his own farm and became active in politics as a member of the local farmers union. He was elected to and served in the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1946 to 1970, also for a time serving as Minority Floor Leader and Speaker of the House. During his tenure as governor, Link became known for implementing policies on environmental and conservation issues.
