PRINCETON -- A former state policeman who served as captain four years with the Beckley Detachment, Luther Albert Taylor, 67, died at his home in Princeton early Wednesday.
Taylor retired from the force in 1956 after 25 years' service.
Death reportedly followed a heart attack.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lucy Taylor; a son, Clarence Taylor of Fayetteville; a brother, Leonard Taylor of Montcalm; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bowman and Mrs. Virginia Herndon of Bluefield, and Mrs. Virgie Biva of Montcalm, and three grandsons. Mrs. Taylor is a sister of Mrs. Anna Basham and Cleveland Young, both of Sophia.
Born at Montcalm, Jan. 19, 1894, he was a son of the late J. W. and Mary Bailey Taylor.
He was a member of the Church of Christ at Crystal, American Legion All-State Police Post No. 112 at Charleston, Beni Kedem Shrine in Charleston, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Chelyan, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and Veterans of Foreign Wars, No. 2703 in Princeton, and a veteran of World War I.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Christian Church in Princeton with the Rev. C. D. Sweet and the Rev. Paul Hall in charge. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Graveside rites will be conducted by members of the American Legion and retired members of the State Police. The body will be taken from Memorial Funeral Directory to his home at 2 p.m. Friday and to the church one hour prior to services. Date: 14 Sep 1961 Beckley Post-Herald
