V. H. WARD OF ECHLEY HIT BY FLYER MON. IS OF INJURIES

Victor Ward of Eckley died Monday morning in the Yuma hospital, shortly after a tragic accident involving the railroad motor car on which Mr. Ward and J. A. Colfman were riding, and the westbound Exposition flyer of the Burlington. Mr. Ward, foreman, and Coffman were making a routine track inspection just east of the Robb siding when the accident occurred. Mr. Ward was picked up critically injured and placed on the flyer and taken to Yuma where he died.

Victor H. Ward was born March 9, 1890 near Marshfield, Ore., and passed away as above stated at the age of 54 years, 7 months and 7 days. He was the son of Dallas Hymen and Adelaide Ward. Mr. Ward came to Yuma county in 1904 and on December 29, 1912 he was united in marriage with Miss Myrtle Cook at Wray. To this union five children were born, 3 daughters and 2 sons.

Mr. Ward was prominent in civic and church affairs at Eckley, having made his home there since 1937. He had been a valued employee of the Burlington railroad for many years, serving as foreman. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge at Yuma.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, his daughters Ivol Adelaide Putnam of Eckley, Ruby Olive Richman of San Francisco, and Isabelle in school in Chicago, Ill., two sons, Dallas Edwin, ART 1-C U.S.N. stationed at San Diego, Calif., and Leslie, Y 2-C, also of the U.S. Navy.

The Rattler joins the host of friends in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved wife and children. No funeral arrangements have been made as we go to press.--Wray Rattler, Thursday, Oct. 19, 1944, Pg. 1
