CWO Andre P. Ajas, USMC (Ret.), 83, formerly of Havelock, NC, passed away on May 26, 2010. Andy was born on January 18, 1927 in New York City, New York.


He was a veteran of three wars, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was on LST 511 ship which was involved in the Normandy invasion during World War II. After discharge from the Navy, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1950 and fought in the Korean War and twice in Vietnam. He retired from active military service in 1970 at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station, NC, after 24 years of distinguished service to his country. He went back to school and obtained licenses for electrical contracting and air conditioning and started a small business as Andy's Air Conditioning and Heating service.


He was preceded in death by his parents August and Marie Ajas; Kazue Baba Ajas, his wife of 50 years; and brother Richard A. Ajas.


He is survived by his son Lt Col Hiroshi Ajas, USAF (Ret.) & Valeria; his daughter Teruyo Ajas Lee & William; and his sister Nancy Marionni & John; four grandchildren Andre T.Ajas & Valerie; David R. Ajas & Gymy; Michelle L. Ajas; and Stacie L. Preston & John; and five great grandchildren, Savannah, Samantha, Kyra, Amaya and Johnny.


A visitation was held on Saturday, June 5 at 11:00 at Woodbridge Funeral Home, 908 Lake Road in Havelock, NC followed by funeral services and interment with full military honors in Forest Oaks Memorial Gardens.


A special thank you from the Ajas' family to the ministers and members of Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church and attending staff at Heartland Rehabilitation and Nursing, Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital, Northgate Nursing and Hospice Inspiris for their compassion and professional care.
