A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Bradey will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010 at MorningStar Presbyterian Church in Matthews, NC. The Reverend Steve Mitchell will officiate. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Bradey was born in 1927 in Greer, SC but moved to Charlotte at the age of two and grew up in North Charlotte.
Mr. Bradey is the son of the late Roy Lee Bradey and Agnes Barrett Bradey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Sybil Rice Bradey, and his brother, Ramon Bradey.
Mr. Bradey is survived by his children, Dr. John Bradey, Jr. and wife, Yvonne, Paul Rice Bradey, and Janice Bradey Davis; two grandchildren, Matthew Davis and Erin Bradey; and brothers, Roy Ken Bradey and Don Bradey.
Mr. Bradey was a World War II Navy veteran. He served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Antietam. He completed his service on Guam as a member of the Navy band 'The Seperateers.' After returning home from the war, Mr. Bradey had a successful 35 year career with the B. F. Goodrich Company.
Mr. Bradey enjoyed big band music, playing the saxophone, playing tennis, building model airplanes, watching Braves baseball, and travel. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, attending church, and churning homemade ice cream on the 4th of July.
