Jeanette Elizabeth Newberry, 85 of Coldwater died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
Jeanette was born Jan. 22, 1925 in Ovid Township, Branch County, to Melvin and Ruth Elizabeth (Bussing) Barnes. She married Loren "Hooney" Newberry in December of 1946 in Coldwater, and he preceded in death in 1978.
She volunteered at the Coldwater Lake Association, and American Cancer Society. Jeanette worked many years at Gillespie Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Survivors include daughter Karen Downs of Coldwater; son David (Pailin) Newberry of Battle Creek; grandchildren Michael (Dr. Sara Platte) Newberry, Jennifer (Preston) Swapp, Justin (Connie) Downs, and Aaron (Monica) Downs; great-grandchildren Brandon, Nicholas and Austin Downs; sisters Joan Stout and Joy (Bill) Ward; brothers John (Gail) Barnes, Roger Barnes and Max (Norine) Barnes; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Loren, and brothers Richard, Donald and Charles Barnes.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, at the Gillespie Funeral Home in Coldwater, with Rev. Shane Chellis officiating. Burial will be at Sorter Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, at the funeral home.
Memorial may be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
