When in his Teens , this boy and his older brother H.P., fought as a member of General Hood's crack corps of Confederates. At the time of their surrender in Greensboro,N.C., Haywood Pickney had already been captured by the enemy; Benjamin William was one of four men surviving of the ones in his company two years earlier ! ( This was Co.,A of the 54th Alabama Regiment.)
Benjamin William Grimes is buried in the Brandon-Bynum cemetery , near the large farm he settled generations ago. His 1st two wives is buried there also.
I found the book in 1997, just now updating April 8, 1999.
I was in Brandon 4/17/1999, went to the cemetery , seen the graves, William E "Zeke" Grimes had the mounuments put in for the family members, even had a memorial mounument for the grandfather Henry Benjamin Grimes. 5/12/1999 cgt.
