OSSEO - Gertrude Mathilda Bratsven, 101, of Osseo died Friday, June 4, 2010 at Luther Midelfort Oakridge in Osseo.
Gertrude was born to Albert and Mathilda (Munz) Heusser April 29, 1909 in Monroe, WI.
She married Johannes Bratsven on August 27, 1927 in Rockford IL. They lived in Delavan until 1933 when they moved to Osseo. They returned to southern Wisconsin and lived in Elkhorn until the early 1970's. Gertie moved to the Osseo Nursing Home in October, 2005.
While living in Osseo she worked at National Presto Industries. Upon returning to Elkhorn she worked at Oaks Manufacturing.
Gertie was an active member in King's Valley Lutheran Church in Osseo. She loved to dance with Johannes, play cards and entertain family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was proud of her Swiss heritage and she enjoyed life to the fullest. Gertie will be remembered for her sandbakkels. Each year she would make thousands of them for family and friends.
Gertie is survived by her seven children, Esther (Anton) Larson of Osseo, Edith (Ralph) Oftedahl of Osseo, Marge Montoya of Hesperia, CA, Harold (Sue) Bratsven of Landers, CA, Eleanor Montano of Franksville, Betty Mendoza of Palmdale, CA and Beverly Bratsven of Eau Claire; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Gertie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johannes; one brother, John Heusser; one sister, Clara August; three sons-in-law, Virgil Montoya, Richard Montano and Tim Mendoza.
Funeral services for Gertrude will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at King's Valley Lutheran Church, rural Osseo, with the Rev. Linda Marlett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Schiefelbein Funeral Home in Osseo and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
The family prefers that memorials be given in Gertie's name to King's Valley Lutheran Church.
