Born the son of Lorenzo W. HOUSEL and Mina (FINCH) HOUSEL.

He was the second generation of his family to attend college at Yale. Graduating with the Class of 1929. He then attended the University of Iowa and obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1932. After being admitted to the bar, he became the third generation in his family to practice law in Humboldt, Iowa. William also served on a number of non-elected positions within the state government.

He married a gal from Keokuk, Iowa named Harriet Evelyn Hilpert on December 16, 1933 in Keokuk.

William with Harriet became the proud father of one daughter and in time, three grandsons.

Uncle Bill also played a steady and consistent role in the lives of three nephews left fatherless before their teen years.

William was a Mason and a member of the Congregational Church.

Appointed to the Iowa Liquor Control Commission in 1953 by then Governor Beardsley. Reappointed in 1955 for a term ending in June 1959 by then Governor Leo A. Hoegh.
