Eliza Woodling Allen
Died - at her home in Spring Grove on Wednesday morning, June 13, 1893 - Mrs. Eliza Allen, wife of E.R. Allen, age 71 yr. 6 mos. and 26 days.
Eliza Woodling born in PA. on Nov. 17, 1821 where she lived until 1837. Then the famiy moved to Honey Creek Prarie, Vigo Co., Ind. Here on Jan. 23, 1843 married E.R. Allen a prosperous young farmer of the same place.
In 1846 May, came to Spring Grove and settled on the gov't. land. Site of 1st cabin but a few rods from home where she died. 5 sons and 3 daughters. 1 son died in 1860 age 14. Other children and father survive.
Been in failing health for 2 or 3 years but death sudden. About 3 p.m. Monday, fell to the floor, stricken with paralysis. Died at 3 a.m. on Wednesday. Funeral at Mt. Hope church on Wednesday afternoon by Rev. R. Peeples. Inter in cemetery adjoining the church."
