Walter H. Euston, Jr., of Middletown, formerly of Deep River, passed away on Wednesday (June 2, 2010) after an extended illness.

Walter was born in Richmond, VA on September 27, 1920 to his late parents, Walter Sr. and Juanita Euston. He was also predeceased by his brother, Charles, and his loving wife of sixty-six years, Nina, just last year.

Walter served in the Army Air Corps during WW II training new Pilots to fly both B-17 and B-24 Bombers.

Upon being released from active duty after the war ended, he and Nina returned to Deep River, where he was briefly employed by Essex Savings Bank and Russell Jennings before finding a home at Stanley Works in New Britain from which he retired as the Insurance Manager.

Walter was a long time member of Deep River Congregational Church, where he sang in the choir over forty years. He served on the Common Council and the Pastoral Search Committee when the Church called the present pastor Rev. Timothy Haut almost thirty years ago as well as other committees.

Walter was known for the beautiful Christmas Cards he created using his creative skills in photography and producing one of a kind cards for friends and relatives. He looked forward to the annual Fourth of July family get-togethers and the opportunity to serve his BBQ Chicken. Walter was a great family man who loved being with the people that will miss him so dearly.

Survivors include his two daughters, Sandra and her husband James Shulthiess of Rockingham NC and Cynthia Euston of Middletown; four granddaughters, Jennifer Dougherty, Michelle Anderson, Kimberlee Hallden and Kirstin Hallden; four great-grandchildren, Erika Anderson, Karen Anderson, Travis Dougherty, Scout Lohrs, Tate Lohrs, and Laurel Birch.

Friends may visit the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Deep River Congregational Church on Church Street, with burial to follow in Fountain Hill Cemetery.
