Gladys Elizabeth Stinespring, 85, of Rt. 1. Fort Defiance, died at 6 a.m. (Dec. 4, 1985) at Staunton Manor Nursing Home where she had been a guest for 5½ years.

A daughter of Clibourne and Lula (Watts) Coiner she was born April 21, 1900 at Fishersville and lived most her life in New Hope. Mrs. Stinespring taught school in her early life and was a member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church where held numerous offices.

She was twice married. Her first husband, John E. Wampler, died Jan. 1, 1923. Her second husband, Floyd Stinespring, died in 1975.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty Fairchilds of Richmond, Patsy Shull of Rt. 1, Swoope, and Elizabeth Stone of Fishersville; three sons, John E. Jr. of Stuarts Draft, David of Crimora and Richard Wampler of Rt. 1, Waynesboro; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, French Hensley Staunton; three brothers, Alexander of Waynesboro, Newt of Kenbridge and Percy Coiner of Martinsville.

A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Hermitage Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James S.R. Tippens, with burial in Augusta Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:30-9 tonight at the Lindsey Weyers Cave Funeral Home.
