We deeply regret having to record the death of Mrs. Bernard, wife of Sergeant Bernard. Mrs Bernard had been ailing for a considerable time, and growing worse yesterday, she passed away between 5 and 6 o'clock in the evening. The news of her death evoked sincere sympathy in the town, where the family is so well known and respected.

The deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. Henry Morey, of Whangarei. She was born in Kent 54 years ago and came out to New Zealand in 1864 with her father.

For the past eight years she has lived in Hawera, coming here from Wellington, where the family lived for several years. She also lived in the Waikato for ten years and was for 15 or 16 years a resident of Auckland.

The deceased leaves ten children, two of whom (Mrs Reid of Petone, and Mr C.E. Bernard Mangaweka) are married. In their grief the family have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends in Hawera and other parts of the Colony.
