Julia was the fifth of nine children born to Ephraim Keeler from Ontario and Sarah Ann Metcalf from Masham, North Yorkshire. Sarah's family emigrated from England when she was 13.
At 21 Julie married Samuel James Carmichael. They had three children of whom only the oldest daughter survived.
The two boys, both named for a cousin who lived, died as infants. Julie died at age 33. She and the boys are buried in Spencerville.
Her husband and his second wife are buried at Edmonton Municipal Cemetery in Alberta, but there is no stone.

Anna Carmichael Barclay buried at Knight's Cemetery with her husband, sons and grandchildren.
