Longtime Anchorage resident Gloria Lee Dickinson, 79, died Oct. 30, 2008, at home from a heart attack. Family and friends were invited to share memories of Gloria at Jack Henry Post #1, 840 W. Fireweed Lane.

Gloria was born April 26, 1929, to Evelyn Nugent in Minneapolis, Minn. After high school graduation, she worked as an expert photo tinter. She met and married Rodney A. Dickinson on April 29, 1950, enjoying 46 years of marriage before Rod's death in 1996. Their sons, Scott Bruce and Mark Allen, were born in Minnesota. The family traveled the Alaska Highway to Anchorage in 1961. She worked at Chugach Electric for more than 25 years, retiring in 1988. She loved reading, needle work, spending time with family and lunching with friends. She devoted many hours as a volunteer at local hospitals. Gloria was a 45-year member of the IBEW and a member of the American Legion auxiliary. Her son Scott said, "My mother had a very beautiful heart, and as far as I'm concerned, I had the best mother in the world."

She is survived by her son, Scott of Anchorage; granddaughters, Christiana Dickinson of Anchorage, Melissa Dickinson Little of Arizona; two great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters and many close friends.
